Trouble with low E and F on Bb Clarinet?
I literally just started playing the clarinet (Yamaha, Bb) yesterday. I do have knowledge of music because I played the flute for 3 years. Anyway, the low E and F below the scale are giving me a lot of trouble. If I play down the scale, generally both notes will come out with hardly any trouble, but if I play the E or F by itself, it either squeaks or doesn't come out at all. It's also not because of keys not being covered, I checked. Any tips?
I switched from Flute to Clarinet as well. You need to relax your Embouchure, drop your jaw a bit. Also, it depends on how you've aligned your reed on your mouth piece. If it's too high, low notes are not going to come out very well.
What helped me get to a performance level on clarinet was playing chromatic scales from highest note I could reach (high G) and down playing to the lowest note. It exercises your fingers and helps you learn all of the notes.
