A steady tone may sound like it's wavering when there is a background noise with a frequency below the range of human hearing. For example, if a window of your car is open, the hum of the tires may seem to get louder and quieter about ten or twenty times per second because the inside of the car acts as an organ pipe. When the low-frequency pressure departs from the pressure in your ears, your ears become less sensitive to the sound of the tires. A similar effect can be caused by the air-circulation system of a building.

Some people can hear the sound of their eardrum hitting the end of its range when there is a loud low-frequency noise, like a distant jet plane or idling truch engine. This can make music with a strong base sound very unpleasant.

I suffer from constant tinnitus---a high-pitched ringing in my head. Sometimes, I hear a beat frequency which is the difference between the pitch of the music and the pitch of the tinnitus. This spoils the music.

Each string of the piano has a fundamental (lowest frequency) mode of vibration, as well as various overtones. Also, when you play one string, it causes other strings to vibrate as well. If each not produce only a single pure tone, the piano wouldn't sound very rich. Perhaps the piano was out of tune. When you get a chance listen to some good instruments.

I think you are more aware of your hearing than most first-year music students. Perhaps you have a special gift; you might even have perfect pitch. Ask your doctor to give you an audiometry test to determine if you have a problem or a special gift. If you teacher doesn't recognize your talent, get another teacher as soon as possible.

Postal Service Give Up Rock Music CD Review

The exceptionally talented Rock group Postal Service have released their CD entitled Give Up. I am very confident and happy to announce that I believe Postal Service fans, and Rock fans alike will be pleased with this one. With the release of Give Up their artistic excellence is on full display as they have once again delivered a brilliant collection of tracks that could very well be their best work to date.

I wish it weren’t the case but, it’s not everyday that I get a CD for review that I can just pop in and comfortably listen to from beginning to end. There is usually a song or two that I just can’t force myself to get through. Not at all the case with Give Up. Every track is enjoyable and was pretty easy for me to listen to from start to finish.

One of the refreshingly nice things about this CD is the way all of the participating artists seem to be really enjoying themselves. Combine that with the overall presentation and you’ve got one of Postal Service most impressive releases ever.

Overall Give Up is outstanding from beginning to end. One of those CDs that after a few listens the songs are just etched into your memory. A must have for the Rock fan. Really spectacular from beginning to end.

While the entire CD is really very good the truly standout tunes are track 2 - Such Great Heights, track 7 - We Will Become Silhouettes, and track 10 - Natural Anthem.

My Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [...as in "Stuck On REpeat"] is track 1 - The District Sleeps Alone Tonight. Great track!
