How to polish yellowish dirty brass?
My brass mouthpiece is originally silver colour, not long after that, the silver plating started to strips down. And now it became a yellowish coloured brass and is dirty. I tried to polish it, and it shows a shiny gold colour for only a day, then the dirty dark spots appear again. What should i do?
These folks are missing something very important in their answers. Brass on the lips is not a safe thing! That's why you don't see all brass mouthpieces, there is somekind of brass poisoning that can come into play (I am not making this up). The plating should last for years if it is put on right. I have had several mouthpieces replated and it doesn't cost that much. Take it to a music store and ask how much to replate.
